Come Inside Me, 2018
Tromsø, Norway
site-specific installation, sound, 47 found radios

An installation redressing cultural shifts within distinct localities by way of conversation between discarded objects and place. A collective of 50-something radios from the electronics recycling bins of Tromsø meet the oldest kiosk in town, itself a somewhat abandoned location, albeit with a gorgeous view.

The work laments the passing of the daily tradition of listening to FM radio, a condition particular to Norway from 2018 due to a digital-only radio strategy. The abandoned objects that formerly featured in daily rituals of local being are given new dignity and a voice. They serve as proxy for a common experience of statelessness, confusion and a search for a better place. A way of seeing troubling conditions as a necessary transition on the path to a self-contained utopia.
