Secondhand Life, 2016
Kulttuurikeskus Vanha Paukku, Lapua, Finland
performance, installation, photography

The performance and installation work presents the artist attempting to fit in to the daily rituals of local life of Lapua, Finland, without knowing the cultural norms or local language. His tools for integration are limited to items purchased at the second hand shop, items that can be interpreted as cliches of local being.

He is reduced to a banal representation of the local, with all intricacies of interaction too removed from his comprehension to contribute to a basis for understanding. This imperfect attempt at fitting in is documented in the poster-size image of the artist as local: blurry, ultimately unsuccessful.
